MVP Sports throws support behind 4th Magnum Independence Cup

MVP Sports is the latest entity to throw its support behind the 4th Magnum Independence Cup, donating an undisclosed sum yesterday, which will aid in the successful staging of the prestigious championship.

“MVP Sports is a proud Guyanese brand that continues to support local sport activities and local athletes from various disciplines. We are happy to be part of one of the biggest grassroots football events in the country to show our support for the communities that the teams represent. MVP Sports is the leading sports apparel and gear store in the country, and we are partnering with this event because we see it as one of the leading grassroots sport events,” Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MVP Sports, Ian Ramdeo was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, tournament organiser, Edison Jefford remarked, “Mr. Ramdeo and MVP Sports has always been supportive of my sport programmes and projects, none of which would have been possible without his financial backing. I cannot thank the company enough for their continued confidence in me and the level of administration that engineers their corporate support. This means a lot to these teams and by extension their communities when they see big companies giving back in these ways.”

The tournament which began on April 24 will resume tomorrow at the National Park tarmac, Thomas Lands, Georgetown, with the semi-final round. Gold is Money will oppose Back Circle, while defending champion Bent Street takes aim at Sparta Boss.

The winner of the tournament will collect $700,000, and the championship trophy, while the runner-up will receive $400,000 and the corresponding accolade. The third and fourth place finishers will walk away with $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.

Meanwhile, the four losing quarter finalists will feature in the Magnum Plate Championship, with the resulting victor walking away with $40,000. In this sector, Melanie will lock horns with Future Stars at 19:00hrs, while North East La Penitence takes aim at Showstoppers from 19:30hrs.

The other sponsors of the event are Nigel Hinds Financial Services, Andrews Supermarket, Bold Expressions Barbershop, Fireside Grill ‘N’ Chill, Star Party Rentals, and Lucozade.
