Half-centuries from Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Tevin Imlach propelled Guyana Harpy Eagles to 219 for four at close of play against Barbados Pride yesterday in the West Indies Championship.
The former champions, Guyana, won the toss and elected to bat first at Queen’s Park Oval in round three with Chanderpaul frustrating the current champions with 64 not out from 259 balls, highlighted by six boundaries.

The 25-year-old lost his opening partner, Chandrapaul Hemraj, who struck four boundaries on his way to 19 before feathering a catch to Shane Dowrich off of former Guyana left-arm seamer, Raymon Reifer (1-17). Imlach joined Chanderpaul as the pair added 94 for the second wicket with the Demerara Cricket Club wicketkeeper/batsman hitting seven boundaries during his maiden half-century at the first-class level. The right hander made 53 from 147 balls.
Skipper, Leon Johnson, then joined Chanderpaul and together they shared a 58-run union for the third wicket with Johnson contributing 37 from 77 balls. His innings featured six boundaries before his opposite number and West Indies Test captain, Kraigg Brathwaite, removed him.
Akshaya Persaud, playing in his third first-class match managed 13 from 24 balls before being bowled by Akeem Jordan who ended with 2-50.
Chanderpaul was joined by Anthony Bramble at the crease, who is on 21 not out from 21 balls, laced with three fours and a six. Meanwhile, Demetri Cameron was handed his maiden first-class cap.
Also in the competition, Leeward Islands Hurricanes piled on 308 for seven after winning the toss and electing to bat first against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force. They were led by Kieran Powell who made 139 from 211, highlighted by 17 fours and two sixes. Amir Jangoo chipped in with 58 from 103 balls. Jayden Seales picked up 2-35.
In the other fixture, Windward Islands Volcanoes were bowled out for 137 in 51.1 overs while Jamaica Scorpions responded with 118 for four at close of play. Scorpions’ Marquino Mindley bagged 5-20, while Nicholson Gordon captured 4-43. Keron Cottoy top scored with an even 50 from 108 balls before being caught and bowled by Gordon.
In Scorpions’ innings, John Campbell made 48 from 50 balls before being bowled by Josh Thomas. Keroy Lugg made 36 and Jermaine Blackwood was dismissed for 26.
The contests resume today and will run until Saturday.
