Rose Hall Jammers pugilists come out on top

The Rose Hall Jammers Boxing Gym (RHJBG) once again ran out winners of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) Pepsi/Mike Parris U16 and Juniors competition which was staged yesterday at the National Gymnasium.

Joint runners up, the Young Achievers and Vergenoegen Boxing Gym (VBG) with four points apiece along with the Forgotten Youth Foundation and newcomers, Pace and Power of Independence Boulevard were the other competing gyms.

Prior to last month, the bouts were staged at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Boxing Gym but according to Technical Director of the association, Terrence Poole, they were forced to switch to the Gymnasium because of a much larger crowd attending the fixture which is staged every two weeks.

Following the 18 bouts on the sixth edition of the event yesterday, Keyon Britton, a standout of the VBG was adjudged the best boxer of the card while Keron Douglas was adjudged the best referee/judge.

Former boxer Richard Williamson of the RHJBG was awarded the Best Coach accolade after leading his charges to seven points.

Poole also stated that the GBA’s National Novices Championship will be staged at the same venue from June 24-26.a
