(CMC) – In-form left-hander Tagenarine Chanderpaul will have another chance to impress selectors after being named in the Cricket West Indies President’s XI to face touring Bangladesh today.

The 26-year-old son of Test legend Shiv Chanderpaul struck two hundreds in gathering 439 runs at an average of 73, for Guyana Harpy Eagles in the just concluded Regional First Class Championship.

His form saw him named on Wednesday as one of two reserves for the Test squad which take on Bangladesh in the opening Test next week.

Chanderpaul will be joined in the President’s XI by fellow Guyanese Tevin Imlach, 25, who averaged 53 during the championship and 23-year-old batsman Alick Athanaze, who hit two half-centuries for Windward Islands Volcanoes.

The side will be led by left-handed strokemaker Yannic Cariah who topped Trinidad and Tobago Red Force’s batting with an average of nearly 45.

“Yannic Cariah has captained Trinidad & Tobago at youth level and he was also the captain of the West Indies Emerging Players team which won the CG United Super50 Cup in 2019,” said chief selector, the Most Honourable Desmond Haynes.

“We are looking at future leaders. We need to start identifying these persons as early as possible. While we will need some assistance from the territories as well, we want to make sure there are leaders we can identify and begin grooming for the future of West Indies cricket.”

Out-of-favour off-spinning Test all-rounder, Roston Chase, has also been named in the 12-man President’s XI squad.

The three-day game will be played at Coolidge Cricket Ground.
