Essequibo salvaged a rain-interrupted match to secure an 11-run win over Rising Stars in the second match of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Under-17 Inter-County tournament Monday at the La Bonne Intention ground.

Essequibo won the toss and inserted Rising Stars who were bowled out for 86 in 30.2 overs.

Essequibo duly reached 61 for five after 24 overs but due to rain, the match was called off and the revised target set at 50.

Bruce Vincent removed Rising Stars’ opener, Anthony Khan for a golden duck while Rampersaud Ramnatuh was run out for five. Kevin Kisten resisted with the  top score of 25 from 32 balls before being bowled by Thaddeus Lovell. Lovell also trapped Jeremiah Hohenkrik leg before wicket to end with 2-26.

Ijithad Kadir (14) and Nityanand Mathura (12) were the only other players to reach double figures. Extras propped up the score with 18. Gulcharran Chuli was the pick of the bowlers, returning 3-6 while Shaazif Mohamed chipped in with 2-17.

Rising Stars contributed to their loss with 19 extras gifted to Essequibo. Lovell returned to make 14 from 22 balls as his side kept above the scoring rate. Jayden Dowlin bagged 2-13 while Krsna Singh and Mathura picked up one wicket a piece.
