The Guyana Under19 girls team suffered successive defeats as the Cricket West Indies Under-19 Rising Stars T20 championship continued over the last two days.

On Tuesday, Guyana were subjected to a 10-wicket loss at the hands of USA girls. Guyana won the toss and opted to bat but could only manage 47 for five from their 15-over quota. Niveena Ramnauth was the only batter to reach double figures with 12 from 20 balls. B. Bhadriraju picked up 2-15 for USA.

In the chase, D. Dhingra top scored with 32 not out. Her 33-ball innings featured five boundaries and she was supported by C. Prashad with 19 not out from 22 balls.

In yesterday’s encounter at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Windward Islands won the toss and inserted Guyana who piled up 84 for three from their 20 overs. Windwards, however, reached 89 for six with two balls to spare.

Realeanna Grimmond continued to impress with the bat for Guyana, finishing on 50 not out from 79 balls. She struck eight boundaries after losing her opening partner, Naomi Barkoye, for one.

Her captain, Ashmini Munisar joined her to add 75 runs for the second wicket before Munisar was run out for 17. Munisar carved two boundaries during her 33-ball cameo. Extras was the next best tally with 15.

Jannillea Glasgow piloted the chase with 24 with Guyana giving away 19 extras. Zaida James contributed 18 from 35 balls. Ramnauth, Grimmond, Trisha Hardat and Cyanna Retemiah picked up one wicket each. (RS)
