Several persons are now injured in the aftermath of a serious accident that occurred along the Windsor Castle Public Road, on the Essequibo Coast.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Eon Singh, 29, and Krishnan Persaud, 33, both of Dunkel, Essequibo Coast, Bhola Ramdiall, 54, of Lot 207 Hampton Court and Tony Jupiter, 32, of Dartmouth suffered various injuries in the accident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon at about 17:30 hrs.

The GPF said in a statement that enquiries have disclosed that a car, PSS 7002, was proceeding north on the western driving lane of the Windsor Castle Public Road at a normal speed with hire car HB 6392, driven by Lindsay Smith, 63, also proceeding behind in the same direction.  However, the statement said another car, PAB 1932, which was heading in the same direction and which was behind the two vehicles, suddenly accelerated in order to overtake hire car HB 6392, when the driver of the overtaking car crashed into the rear wheel of the hire car, resulting in Smith losing control and further crashing into the rear of PSS 7002.

As a result of the crash, the hire car abruptly came to a stop, while PSS 7002 ended up in a drain on the eastern side of the road, and PAB 1932 toppled into a trench on the western side of the Windsor Castle road before coming to a sudden halt.  The police said that the driver of PAB 1932 and its occupants and the driver of PSS 7002 were assisted by public-spirited citizens and were rushed to the Oscar Joseph Hospital, where they were seen and examined by a doctor on duty.

Singh was treated for a fractured shoulder, while Persaud was treated for internal injuries. In addition, Jupiter and Ramdiall were both treated for lacerations to their heads.

As a result of the injuries sustained, the injured parties were later transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital, where they were admitted.
