Berbice cricketer dies after motorcycle mishap

A cricketer/salesman died on the East Bank Berbice (EBB) Public Road yesterday morning after his motorcycle suffered a tyre blowout causing him to run into a trench.

Dead is Clifton John Lindie, 25, sales representative attached to DDL and cricketer with the Tucber Park Cricket Club, of Lot 1554 Glasgow Housing Scheme, EBB.

According to Lindie’s sister, Cathria Lindie, they received information that around 1 am yesterday the victim was riding home when the front tyre blew out resulting in him losing control of the motorcycle.

“And he end up in the trench part and a guard (nearby) said she heard a noise but she didn’t check it out but this morning someone come and tell us they pull him out and he at the hospital and when we go there them say he at the funeral parlour”, the sister related.

Based on information gathered, it was lawmen who eventually pulled Lindie’s body from the trench after persons reported that he was there at day break.

Lindie’s sister said, that the young man did not work on Saturdays but left home in the afternoon to go hang out with his friends, “We heard they went in front DDL drinking and then he left (and said) that he coming home.”

She said that whenever Lindie imbibes he would opt to stay over at a friend house in New Amsterdam but that his friends reported he only had a few beers and said that he would be heading home.

She described her brother as a quiet person who was passionate about sports. “He always loved sports, especially cricket.”

The Tucber Park Cricket Club yesterday expressed condolences to the family of Lindie saying that the young man represented the club “with distinction.”

The club wrote on social media that Lindie was a “valuable member of our first and second division teams. During his tenure his commitment, dedication and love for the game was second to none.”

It added that Lindie representing Berbice at the under 19 level was “only one of his many achievements.”

A number of persons also took to social media to express their shock at the young man’s tragic death noting that Berbice has lost a major talent in the sports sector.
