League leader Golden Grove remained atop the GuyOil/Tradewind Tankers Secondary Schools Football League, defeating Cummings Lodge 2-0 yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown.
Kelvin Richardson bagged a double in the 13th and 50th minute. Meanwhile, undefeated President’s College edged West Ruimveldt 1-0 to remain in second place. Juan Moses scored in the 21st minute.
On the other hand, Christianburg/Wismar mauled Dolphin 3-0 to climb into the third position. Krishtian Lewis, Kelvin Hintzen, and Daniel Adolph scored in the 32nd, 50th and 69th minute respectively.
Meanwhile, North Ruimveldt brushed aside Friendship 5-1 to sit in fourth place. Bryan Wharton recorded a double in the 18th and 44th minute, whilst Jevon Pluck, Josiah Joseph, and Jeremiah Moore netted in the 14th, 22nd, and 50th minute respectively. For the loser, Randy Springer scored in the 50th minute.
The eventual winner of the tournament will receive $500,000 for a school project and the championship trophy. The second, third, and fourth place finishers will pocket $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 respectively towards an initiative.
On the individual side, awards will also be presented for the most valuable player, highest goal scorer, and best goalkeeper. The top two finishers in the event will qualify for the Goodwill International Championship.
