Star cyclist, Jamual John took his talents to Essequibo yesterday and added another ounce of gold to his palmarès.

The Team Foundation standout led breakaway mates, Andre ‘Padlock’ Green and Briton John across the line in a thrilling sprint finish in the Urban Benjamin Memorial road race.

Staged from Charity to Supenaam and back, John clocked 3h:06:15s for the grueling 70 plus-mile sunbaked event.

Romello Crawford out-sprinted the peloton to finish fourth with a resurgent Robin Persaud and Paul DeNobrega closely on his wheel.

Alex Leung (Junior), Horace Burrowes (vets O-50) and Clavecia Spencer (female) were other bikers who made hay in the brilliant sunshine, winning their respective categories.

However, the day’s highlight belonged to John who won his third successive race on the local circuit since returning from the USA last month.

After a series of attacks and breaks which included several riders, the race

unfolded with five miles from the finish.

Last year’s winner, Briton rose from his saddle and changed gears and Jamual and Green promptly mirrored his action.

The trio barreled to the finish with the peloton closely marking, however, they were unable to bridge the gap.

Briton again tried a solo escape but that was quickly extinguished with Green and Jamual successfully challenging the attack.  The riders were joined at the hip until the final 200m where John changed gears again and sprinted to victory.

The 25 year-old who last won the event in 2020, credited his dominance locally to competing with a high calibre of wheelsmen in the USA.

He also stated that the support from USA based Team Foundation and DeSinco Trading have immensely impacted his performance.

John then disclosed that he will be competing in the Tobago Classic this weekend and as usual, will be gunning for the top podium spot.
