Doubles action lights up national Jr., badminton tourney

The Guyana Badminton Association’s National junior’s tournament continued with an electrifying night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

In the boys under-11 singles, Manvir Sharma defeated Ashton Ramdhani 21-8 but lost to Francis Thomas 21-12. John Thomas got past Joel Rambirichie 21-5.

Thomas also reigned supreme in the Boys under-13 singles, beating Vivaan Shivnauth 21-6, 21-6 while Sergio Alexander beat Mohamed Farouk 21-10, 21-6 but lost to Ruel Rambirichie 21-14, 21-8.

In the Boys under-15 singles, Avinash Ramnarine defeated Nathan Jarvis 21-6, 21-5 by lost to Aiden Bhagwandin 21-13, 21-11. Bhagwandin also defeated Gabriel Felix 21-15, 22-20. Xavio Alexander blew away Jaquan Nedd 21-1, 21-3 while Nathan Morrison emerged victorious over Nikolas Pollard 21-6, 1-19.

Bhagwandin lost his under-17 Boys singles match against Matthew Spooner 21-18, 21-10 while Spooner lost to Joanathan Debidin 21-12, 21-19. Debidin also registered victory over Haresh Persaud 21-4, 21-1. Alexander got the better of Jonathan Robinson 21-15, 21-11 while Jedidiah Uwagboe beat Frank Waddell 21-2, 21-11.

Meanwhile in the Boys under-19 singles, Debidin beat Alexander 21-16, 21-14 while Raah Russell beat Persaud 21-10, 21-6. Viraj Singh defeated both Sharma (21-10, 21-8) and Russell (21-13, 21-8).

In the Boys under-17 doubles, Spooner and Persaud got past Uwagboe and Juan Ferreira 21-19, 24-22.

Over in the Boys under-19 doubles, Russell and Waddell teamed up to beat Morrison and Vinai Datt 21-9, 21-7.

In the girls under-13 singles, Humanshi Kumar lost the first set 19-21 against Gabrielle Felix but bounced back to win the following sets 21-10, 21-14 and secure victory. Kumar also defeated Maleeah Hinckson 21-1, 21-1. Gianna Ramnarine defeated Tanjua Netram 21-11, 21-10.

Felix lost her Girls under-15 bout against Mishka Beharry 21-9, 21-11 while Malia Haley romped to victory over Navaeh Eastman by a 21-15, 21-14 margin.

Beharry defeated Haley 21-3, 21-1 in the Girls under-19 singles while Alima Eastman defeated Naveah Eastman 21-7, 21-8.

In the girls under-15 doubles, Genvieve Bookram and Kumar defeated Natram and Hinckson 21-6, 21-13.

In the Girls under-19 doubles Alima Eastman and Bookram got past Navaeh Eastman and Haley 21-13, 21-19.
