A 54-year-old labourer of Parika, East Bank Esse-quibo died after he fell while picking cashews from the slippery tree in his yard on Saturday morning.

Colbert Rawlston Rogers was found lying on his side between two cashew trees in a semi-crouched position with his face towards the galvanised sheets fence.

Relatives believe that he sustained injuries to his head from another piece of zinc that was braced on the fence. Small spots of blood were seen on the sheet.

His grandson, Asif Khan, said it was raining heavily and he was still lying in bed when he heard a loud thud.

Khan, who lives in a separate section of the house with his wife and two children, said he thought nothing of the sound and did not go out to check.

Sometime after, his wife was going to use the outdoor washroom when she made the discovery.

She called out to Khan who rushed to the scene. He touched the man’s hand and realised it was lifeless.

He immediately contacted the police and also called out to neighbours to inform them.

When the cops turned Rogers’ body over, they found a black plastic bag with cashews tied to his pants.

He was wearing one side of his shoes. The other side was found over the fence.

Relatives who gathered at his home yesterday to mourn his loss, said that he was a quiet man.  They said too that his wife died recently and that he was still in grief.
