A 19-year-old is now in police custody after he and another allegedly stole over $300,000 in electronic appliances and cash from a Riverstown family.

All the items and cash were later recovered.

According to the police in Regional Division #2, they are investigating a robbery under arms which occurred on Friday in which a cutlass was used. The victims were a family from Riverstown on the Essequibo Coast and they were relieved of number of household items plus cash.

The police stated that one of the victims, who is a hire car driver, had finished working at about 8 pm and went home. As he was entering his dwelling he was suddenly confronted by two males one of whom dealt him a blow to his head with the cutlass that he (the suspect) was armed with.  As a result, the hire car driver started to scream and his wife rushed to his recue, but she was restrained by the suspects and tied up inside the house.

The two bandits then searched the house and carted off one smart television worth $50,000, an amplifier worth $40,000, three cell phones which amounted to $100,000 along with $118,000 in cash and two car keys after which they escaped.

The police were summoned shortly after and went in search of the suspects. They managed to apprehend one of them who had in his possession the $118,000 and all the other items.

Efforts are being made to apprehend the other suspect who is still on the run.
