Following the Demerara Cricker Board (DCB) elections at the body’s Annual General Meeting last week, Bissoondyal Singh will serve as President for a second term.

At the La Bonne Intention Cricket Facility Stabroek News understands that the voting process was done by show of hands with Singh getting the affirmative form 24 voters. Everest Cricket Club president and speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir received seven votes.

According to a release from the body, the elections were attended by representatives from East Coast Cricket Board, East Bank Cricket Association, Upper Demerara Cricket Association, West Demerara Cricket Association and Georgetown Cricket Association.

“During the ensuing discussions a number of issues were highlighted with the most important areas of concern being the fact that senior GCA members regularly failed to attend Executive meetings of the Demerara Cricket Board,” the release noted.

The release singled out GCA head, Neil Barry as attending five of nine meetings. Also singled out was former Guyana Cricket Board executive, Roger Harper and DCB executive, Azad Ibrahim who allegedly attended four and two meetings.

It was Harper who had nominated Singh to lead the Board back in 2021 and seconded by Ibrahim to pave the way for his first term.

“Also, Barry, Marketing Committee chairman failed to acquire a single sponsor throughout the year while Roger Harper never convened a single Cricket Development Committee meeting although he was the Chairman for the period,” the release continued.

The DCB document noted that members expressed “total dissatisfaction” and felt GCA was “deliver underperforming.

It is noted that no member form the GCA was elected and it is understood that GCA did not support Singh.

Arnold Sukraj, functioned as the Returning Officer. The release detailed that GCA walked out of the meeting.

Puneet Jaigopaul was elected first vice-president, replacing Harper while Bradley Fredericks will serve as second vice-president for a second term.

Davteerth Anandjit and Ronald Williams were re-elected Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.

Vicky Bhadrosay was elected Treasurer and Akeem Troy Khan will serve as Assistant Treasurer.

Kavita Yadram replaced Raymond Barton as chair of the competitions committee while Clarence Brotherson replaced Claude Raphael as Public Relations Officer.

Former Berbice Cricket Board president, Anil Beharry will serve as Marketing Manager. The trustees are Fazal Ishak and Avinash Ganesh.

Chateram Ramdial and Associates will be the Auditor.
