This Block B Bush Lot grass field will lead to many issues which will further affect our daily lives

Dear Editor,

We the residents of the Block B, Housing Scheme, Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice, are writing to inform you of a matter of great concern about a grass field that is being established in the vicinity of the above address. We believe that this grass field, being so close to our homes, will lead to many issues which will further affect our daily lives.

Firstly, we are currently facing an overflow of water in the neighbouring trenches, as the grass field is causing water blockage. Stagnant water breathes mosquitoes and other harmful pests which are likely to cause a lot of illnesses and diseases, simultaneously causing an unclean and an unhealthy surrounding. Further, grass fields are known to harbour dangerous animals such as poisonous snakes, rats, mosquitoes, centipedes, millipedes, etc. Not forgetting, that thieves can use this grass field as a hide out when they want to commit their heinous crimes.

Recently, someone on Block B lost his motorcycle, which was stolen from under his house. We believe that this grass field will be used as a hideout by thieves to commit such crimes. These factors pose a threat to all the residents in this particular Block as well as the community of Bush Lot on a whole, especially the children residing in this locale. Editor, for years we have lived in this peaceful vicinity, our children and grandchildren were raised here. We are still raising children here and we would like to continue doing so, in a peaceful environment.

Thus far, we have raised our concerns with the relevant authorities in Mahaica-Berbice (Region Five) RDC, we have also sent a letter to the Office of the President. After which, Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha came into the area, and after looking into the grass field, he put the establishment on hold. We are pleading with His Excellency, Irfaan Ali, to hear our concerns and look into this situation. We have nothing against the establishment of grass fields, however, we do not see it fit to establish a grass field in a housing scheme, where we are residing with our families.  This plot of land can be used as a house lot where a family in need, can peacefully reside.

Sincerely,

Concerned Residents
