Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara Championship on tonight at Pouderoyen

The sixth edition of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets, West Demerara Championship will kick-off this evening at the Pouderoyen Tarmac with the Round of 16 section, following a three year absence.

Tournament coordinator Shavaine Ghent said, “All systems are in place for tomorrow, the expectation is not to only have a large crowd but an exciting night of football so patrons should come out and support their teams because they will have notable players participating and new players who will be making their debut in the format.”

According to Ghent, “Anticipation for the tournament is at an all-time high given the three year absence, and simply based on the turnout that was experienced at the playoffs, all the teams that have made the main draw following an arduous qualifying tournament, are well prepared and have eyes on the coveted prize. Good luck to all the teams and may the best team win.”

In the opening match of the competition, Team Family battles Hillside from 19:00hrs, with Up Top Bosses tackling Up Like 7 at 19:30hrs and Ballers Empire taking aim at Ramsay Clan from 20:00hrs.

The fourth encounter at 20:30hrs will pit Team Anti-Social against Jetty Gunners. Red Triangle and Bagotstown Warriors will then take centre stage at 21:30hrs, whilst WestSide Ballers faces-off against Pouderoyen Brothers from 22:00hrs.

In the seventh fixture, ESPN will oppose newcomer Upsetters from 22:30hrs, whilst the feature affair of the evening will pit former three time champion Showstoppers against CN Ballers at 23:00hrs. The resulting winners of the aforementioned matches will advance to the quarterfinal round.

On the other hand, the respective losers will contest the plate championship. The other match days are tomorrow and the 17th. The event will utilize an elimination format. Below features the Round of 16 Fixtures.
