These major developments will positively impact the lives of Region Two’s residents

Dear Editor,

Region 2 is rapidly being transformed into an economic hub; particularly within the township. This is evident with the construction and completion of several business enterprises. In addition, a stadium is under construction in Anna Regina which will facilitate the hosting of a number of sporting disciplines. I am particularly impressed with the project that is currently being undertaken just next to the Drainage and Irrigation Department and over the main trench in Anna Regina. I believe that it is a private partnership and with government’s approval. This is a unique scenery; but will be quite a spectacle when completed. Opposite this site which will accommodate patrons being hosted above the flowing water; is the construction of a multi-purpose business facility that will compliment an otherwise colourful setting. This is a very good sign for the region given that investors are placing confidence in the local economy and doing so hassle free; a deterrent which sometimes can stifle economic growth and development. It is these types of trajectory that is transforming the landscape and livelihood of the residents of region 2 because of competitive economic delivery. In tandem, the region must also deliver in order to stabilize and to propel the wheels of productivity. In other words, the infrastructural capability must be dynamic in terms of the construction of new roads and bridges to facilitate the large fleet of vehicles that currently exist.

It is in this context therefore, I wish to commend the Regional Authorities for their successful representation through the national budget for the construction of a $55 million dollars bridge that will annex the village of Henrietta and Anna Regina. This is a massive investment that will considerably reduce the congestion of vehicular traffic; especially whenever there is a major event around the Anna Regina Car Park. I witnessed the massive built-up when the Mash activities were held and it was unbelievably chaotic and time consuming for those who were caught up in the traffic. Currently there are 123 roads that are being either built or rehabilitated through the Ministry of Public Works and in addition to what has been budgeted; for this year to be done. Similar developments are being undertaken within the Agricul-tural, Health and Education sectors including the completion of a modern Abram Zuil Secondary School and the soon to be constructed multi-purpose hospital at Lima. These are major developments that will positively impact on the lives of residents and a boost to the tourism sector as well. It is my hope therefore, that our service providers, including the government and private sector, will continue to collaborate in the best interest of strengthening the ties of social, cultural, mutual and economic boom to allow for the continued and rapid transformation of region 2

Sincerely,

Elroy Stephney
