A man who was recently arrested for posing as an employee of the Ministry of Housing/Central Planning and Housing Authority and purporting to be in a position to sell plots of land to other persons was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $250,000.

Andre DeFreitas, 29, of Lot 159 Cow Pen Street, Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD), and also of Dia-mond, EBD, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with obtaining money by false pretence.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on bail. He was ordered to make his second appearance at court on March 17.

It was reported that the defendant was recently nabbed in a sting operation along Regent Street, in Georgetown, after being paid the sum of $100,000, in marked money, for the payment of a plot of land which he had promised a person he would acquire while pretending to be working at the Ministry of Housing.
