Non Elite League outfits Slingerz FC and Pouderoyen will contest the final of the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) ‘Commander Cup’ following convincing semi-final wins over Elite League sides Den Amstel, and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) respectively on Friday.

Hosted at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, Slingerz FC, who was once a member of the Elite League, thrashed Den Amstel 6-1. Lanferman opened the scoring in the 30th minute, racing onto a lobbed pass from the defender that sailed over the back-line, before slotting past the goalkeeper during a one-on-one situation.

Leo Lovell then made it 2-0 in the 35th minute, slamming his effort past the custodian, after latching onto a through pass from Jamal Perreira. Slingerz entered the halftime interval with a commanding 3-0 advantage after Dexroy Adams found the back of the net in the 45th minute.

Receiving a pass at the top of the 18 yard area, Adams duly curled the

ball into the far corner of the net.

Clive Nobrega then got into the scoring act in the 54th minute to push the score to 4-0, curling his effort from inside the box into the back of the net, after receiving a pass from Ricardo Halley.

Den Amstel eventually got onto the score sheet 10 minutes later after Kevaughn Ward converted from the penalty spot following an infraction inside the 18-yard area.  The conversion only provided brief respite as Sheldon Holder made his presence felt, opening his account in the 88th minute with a header into the back of the net after latching onto a cross from Nobrega. Holder completed his brace in the 90th+2 minute, slotting home from inside the six-yard area, after receiving a cross from Deon Alfred.

Meanwhile, Pouderoyen FC arrested the lawmen 4-2. A two goal blitz in the opening half secured a 2-1 advantage for Pouderoyen after they had fallen behind in the 14th minute to an Antwon Vasconcellos conversion.

The equaliser occurred in the 25th minute, when Matthew Chidune scored from the penalty spot, finishing his effort into the right corner.

The 2-1 advantage was then realized in the 36th minute when Stephon Jupiter scored, skipping past his marker while cutting in from the left flank and curling a right footed effort into the far corner.  Jupiter then made it 3-1 in the 51st minute to seal his brace, capping off a brilliant passing combination which included Marvin Frank and Chidune, as the lanky attacker slammed his effort into the back of the net after receiving a back-heeled pass.

The lawmen eventually reduced the deficit to 2-3 in the 71st minute when Threvon Pluck directed his powerful header into the back of the net, after rising high to receive a cross from the left side.

However, Pouderoyen would not be denied the victory, as Chidune completed his double in the 85th minute, racing onto a through pass following an interception due a high press, before slamming past the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

The winners will now face-off on March 24th at the same venue for the coveted title, while the losers will compete in the third place playoff.

The winner of the tournament will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy, whilst the runner-up will receive $250,000 and the corresponding accolade. The third and fourth-place finishers will receive $150,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
