Two held at Charity over imported cannabis

On the 20th March 2023, Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers intercepted a motor vehicle with two male occupants bearing Registration number HD 1880 at Charity Street, Charity, Essequibo.

A subsequent search was conducted on the said vehicle in the presence of the occupants, which revealed twelve brick-like parcels suspected to contain  cannabis.

Naresh Ramdeen, 37 years, of Jacklow, Pomeroon River, and Stefan Mohammed, 29 years of Coffee Grove, Essequibo Coast, were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic was tested and weighed, it was discovered to be imported cannabis with a total weight of approximately 30 lbs. (13.34 kg), with a street value of approximately $5M.

Investigations are ongoing.
