Mohabir, Dindyal hit tons in massive win for Demerara

National youth players, Alvin Mohabir and Mavindra Dindyal, showed they were a cut above the rest, hitting tons to lead Georgetown to a massive 264-run win over West Demerara in the Demerara Cricket Board Under-19 Inter-Association tournament.

At the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Georgetown won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 312 for four from their 50 overs. West Demerara managed just 48 before they were bowled out in 17.4 overs.

Georgetown lost Jadon Campbell and Jeremiah Hohenkirk to slip to 24 for two at the end of the sixth over but the two century makers joined forces to pile on 194 for the third wicket.

Mohabir played a captain’s knock, hitting 113 not out from 116 balls, his innings featuring seven fours and one six. Dindyal went on to make 101 from 108 balls, highlighted by seven fours and three sixes before he was stumped off of the bowling of Vishal Persaud. Mohabir was then joined by Shamar Yearwood and the pair added 71 for the fourth wicket with Yearwood racing to 53 from 36 balls, blasting four sixes and three fours.

When it was West Demerara’s turn to bat, off-spinner, Ezekiel Wilson halted their scoring by picking up four wickets for just two runs. He was supported by Nehemiah Hohenkirk, Rivaldo Phillips and Riyad Latif with two wickets apiece. Extras had the largest tally of 18 while Anthony Sanchara was the only batsman to score double figures with 13 as all the other batsmen failed to pass six runs.

Meanwhile at Farm Ground, East Coast defeated East Bank by 130 runs. After winning the toss, East Bank inserted East Coast who piled on 230 all out in 45.2 overs with Anthony Khan top scoring with 56 and getting support from Lawrence Pellew with 42 and Rudranauth Kissoon with 32. Zahir Mohamed took 4-33 for East Bank as Joash Charles, Anthony Lim and Deonarine Dindyal took two wickets each.

In reply, Lim returned to hit the top score of 40 while Dindyal made 24 but no other batsmen got going. Jagdesh Dowlateram, Nicholas Shoepersaud and Chandrapaul Ramraj all claimed two wickets each.

In the third round of the tournament sponsored by Ariel Enterprise, Trophy Stall, Ramchand’s Auto Spares and Cricket Equipment Inc., East Coast Demerara will battle Georgetown at Enmore Ground while West Demerara will take on East Bank Demerara at Farm Ground on Friday.
