Team Guyana is still awaiting US visas for 11 of its 18 athletes who are scheduled to compete at this year’s CARIFTA Games in Nassau, Bahamas.

This is according to President of the Athletic Association, (AAG), Aubrey Hutson.

The 50th edition of the annual showpiece is scheduled to be held during this upcoming Easter weekend at the Thomas Robinson National Stadium.

Hutson told this publication yesterday that the visas were applied for yesterday after the only available route to get to the Bahamas for the dates prior to the April 7-10 event was through Miami, Florida. Other planned routes to get to the Bahamas fell through after seats became unavailable.

He also stated that the AAG “is ready to buy the tickets” for the 11 athletes after receiving funds from the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) to the tune of $3M last week. Hutson further mention that  he is “being very optimistic” of an expeditious granting of the visas for the teen athletes.

According the correspondence, the traveling contingent will comprise 18 athletes and five officials.

The team is set to be spearheaded by two-time CARIFTA Games gold medalist, javelin ruler, Anisha Gibbons.  The officials are, coaches, Mark Scott, Keisa Burnett, and Linden Phillips while the manager is Keith Campbell.
