Hire car driver dies after crash on Soesdyke/Linden Highway

A hire car driver died on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway on Monday afternoon after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving.

Dead is Alvin Dubar, 48, of Lot 5 Section ‘B’ Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara.

Enquiries have revealed that Dubar was driving hire car HD 808, a silver/grey Toyota Spacio, north along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle.

As a result, the car turned over several times and the driver was flung from the vehicle and ended up on the parapet with injuries to his head and about his body. He was picked up by police ranks and public-spirited citizens in an unconscious condition and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre on the East Bank of Demerara. At the facility, Dubar was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ryan Khan, a 49-year-old man od Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident, was also taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre in an unconscious state and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He was admitted as a patient in the Male Surgical Ward suffering from lacerations to the head and about the body.

Khan regained consciousness at about 13:25 hours on Tuesday afternoon. He was discharged and escorted to the Police Highway Patrol Base, Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, to further assist police with their investigation.

 The body of Dubar was then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary for storage, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
