Chase Academy, Santa Rosa battle for Milo’s `Holy Grail’

Former champions Chase Academy will battle maiden finalist Santa Rosa of Region #1 this evening in the final of the ninth Milo Secondary Schools Football championships at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, from 18:00hrs.

Chase Academy sealed their place in the championship match after dismissing newcomers Mackenzie High 3-0 in the semi-final round while Santa Rosa edged Carmel Secondary 2-1 in their semifinal.

In terms of the numbers, both teams sport an identical record of five wins and a draw. Chase Academy has bested Bygeval, Dora, New Central, Ann’s Grove, and Mackenzie High, with their only draw occurring against Carmel in the earlier group stage.

For Santa Rosa, wins were recorded against St. Stanislaus College, New Amsterdam, 8th of May, East Ruimveldt and Carmel. Their only stalemate occurred against Dolphin Secondary.

Delving deeper into the statistics, Chase Academy possess marginally superior overall figures on both sides of the field. Offensively, Chase Academy has scored a total of 37 goals a rate of 6.16 goals per fixture. In the elimination round, Chase Academy tallied 13 goals, a conversion rate of 4.3 per match.  On the defensive end, the Chase Academy unit has allowed a total of a mere three goals, two of which occurred in the knockout section.

Santa Rosa has scored 27 goals thus far at an average of 4.5 goals per encounter. Moreover, Santa Rosa has registered 14 goals in the elimination round at a rate of 4.6 goals per contest, which is slightly better than their rival.  

From the defensive perspective, the Region #1 unit has conceded five times. Interestingly, Santa Rosa has not kept a clean sheet in the elimination section as they have conceded thrice. Meanwhile, Carmel Secondary will oppose Mackenzie High in the third place playoff at 16:00hrs.

The losing semi-finalists will compete in the third place playoff. The winner of the event will pocket $300,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy, with the second, third, and fourth place finishers walking away with $200,000, $100,000, and $75,000 respectively for a school initiative and the corresponding accolade.

The event is sponsored by Nestle (Milo) via Massy Distribution. It is sanctioned by the Ministry of Education and supported by the Guyana Football Federation. The other sponsors are GINMIN, GENEQUIP, and MVP Sports.
