East Coast loses to Georgetown but wins DCB U17 Inter-Association tournament

Georgetown defeated East Coast by seven wickets in the fifth and final round of the Demerara Cricket Board U-17 Inter-Association cricket competition but the East Coast side still emerged victorious on a net run rate.

East Coast and Georgetown each ended with the same points but with a superior net run rate of 2.929 over Georgetown’s 2.329, East Coast were crowned champions.

At Queen’s College ground, winning the toss and electing to take first strike, East Coast posted 154 all out in 44.3 overs. Vice-captain, Nicholas Shiopersaud top scored with 37 and received support from Vickash Wilkinson and Romeo Deonarain with 35 and 20 runs respectively. Jayden Dowlin was the most successful bowler for Georgetown, bagging 5-23 while Stephon Sankar supported with 3-27.

Georgetown then eased to their target of 155 in 33.2 overs, losing three wickets along the way. Jonathan Van Lange smashed 98 from 67 balls, hitting 10 fours and five sixes while Miguel Nandu chipped in with 24 not out and Ryan Latif made 10. Neeran Bani picked up 2-25.

Over at Zeeburg, West Demerara defeated East Bank by two wickets. East Bank also won the toss and opted to bat, posting 142 all out in 27 overs, the match reduced to 35-overs-a-side.

Deonarine Dindial top scored with 32 while his opening partner, Sayyad Lakeram, made 30. Joshua Lim and Dillon Roopnarine made 25 and 23 runs respectively. N. Sankar picked up 3-7 while Mahendra Mohan and Robin Seecharran took two wickets each. West Demerara, in their reply, reached 143-8 in 27.5 overs. West Demerara’s innings was piloted by Pareshwar Ram with 47. He was supported by Kevin Ben with 18. Dindial and Lakeram took three wickets each while left-arm spinner, Farhan Hussain ended with 2-24.

Deonarain, who scored a double century in the opening round finished as the leading run getter with 337 runs while Lakeram was the most effective bowler, taking 10 wickets in the tournament, which was sponsored by Team Mohamed.
