Motorcyclist, pillion rider die in Corentyne accident

A motorcyclist and his pillion rider died after an accident on the Number 68 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, on Tuesday morning.

Dead are 17-year-old Roano Rajpaul, and 38-year-old Harrinarine Ramnauth of Berbice.

The fatal accident occurred at about 0020 hours on the Number 68 Public Road and involved a motorcycle, CM 1594.

Enquiries revealed that the motorcyclist with the pillion rider was proceeding north at a fast rate. While in the process of negotiating a left turn, the rider lost control and ended up on the eastern side of the road where he collided with a sign and a concrete bus shed. As a result of the collisions, the rider and the pillion rider where thrown off the motorcycle, sustaining serious injuries. They were picked up in an unconscious condition by the police and public-spirited citizens and transported to the Skeldon Public Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Their bodies are presently at the hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations. The area was canvassed for CCTV footage but no camera was observed.
