Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai yesterday engaged families of those who perished in the Mahdia dormitory tragedy as well survivors from Micobie and El Paso in Region Eight.

Twenty children died after the fire at the girls dormitory in May and the government is yet to convene the promised commission of inquiry or explain why a year-old report that raised concerns about fire safety at the facility was not acted on.

A release from the Department of Public Information (DPI) said that the minister  assured that the government will continue to offer support to them during this difficult time.

Two sewing machines were delivered to Micobie’s Community Service Officers (CSOs) to aid in establishing micro businesses for financial stability.

The village council also received several bags of rice intended to benefit 180 households in Micobie.

Sukhai also handed over an ATV to the CDC Chairman of Wailiang/Kuribrong Region 8.
