The organisers of the 15th Guyana Cup Horse Race Meet have given the assurance that there will be adequate parking and easier access to the venue when the event is held on August 13 at the Rising Sun Turf Club in West Berbice.

At last year’s event patrons were stranded and unable to access the Rising Sun Turf Club for hours but head of Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee Nasrudeen Mohamed told reporters at the Launch yesterday that work has started on a four lane access to the venue while there are preparations for parking of over 2000 vehicles.

He said there will also be additional seating in the venue for patrons and work has been ongoing to accommodate the usually large number of persons expected at the event.

The Launch took place yesterday at Duke Lodge in Kingston under the banner of Banks Beer as the title sponsor of the premier Horse Race event in Guyana. Irshad Mohamed, another member of the committee, disclosed that horses are expected from neighouring Brazil and Suriname, the United States of America to participate at the event and patrons can expect another exciting horse racing programme. He added that tickets will be sold in the parking a lot and not of the main road to avoid traffic congestion.

Assistant Superintendent Harry said the Guyana Police Force will be placing additional ranks to assist in traffic management and other security logistics and he outlined the traffic and parking arrangements.

Training/Communications Executive of Banks DIH Limited Sonya Forrester said that her Company is extremely pleased to be sponsoring the event once again. The local bottling giants have been a major sponsor the Guyana Cup from its beginning.

Forrester said the partnership continues to be beneficial to Banks DIH and the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Committee as the event grows. The programme will feature eight races with the feature being for the Guyana Cup.

Tickets will go on sale online from today and according to Mohamed retail outlets will be announced soon. Alado of Master Z Racing Stable won the feature Guyana Cup last year in a very exciting race.
