Driver in La Grange pedestrian death on station bail

The driver who struck down and killed 52-year-old Vidya Tie on the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara last Monday was released on station bail and a file is being prepared for legal advice.

This is according to Region 3 Commander, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Siwnarine.

The accident occurred last Monday at about 0550 hours on the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara, involving hire car, HD 3435, owned and driven by Timothy Waldron, 35, of Apartment Number 6, Shopping Plaza, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Enquiries revealed that the car was proceeding north along the public road at a fast rate. The driver alleged that while he was in the process of overtaking another car (number unknown), the pedestrian ran across the road causing the car to hit her. As a result of the collision, the pedestrian was flung onto the bonnet and windscreen of the car then fell onto the road surface with injuries about her body. She was picked up in an unconscious state by police and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was then transported to the Ezekiel Funeral Home.
