Guyana men’s hockey team ended their campaign at Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games winless following defeat against Jamaica 3-4 in the fifth-eight-cross over match yesterday in the Dominican Republic.

The local side blew away another early advantage similar to their game against Cuba on Monday. Leading goal scorer Andrew Stewart had given Guyana the lead in the 9th minute from one of their now famous penalty corners.

In fact, Guyana has had the distinction of scoring the most penalty corners (6) in the preliminary competition among the eight competing teams.

They were also awarded 13 penalty corners in the match against Jamaica but only scored one while their opponents netted three.

Christopher Reid equalized for Jamaica in the 13th minute from a penalty corner which pushed his team on the offensive and they scored a go-ahead goal through Shemar Gordon who netted a field goal in the 21st minute.

The Jamaicans held a 2-1 lead at half time and continued their assault through two penalty corner goals by Reid in the 40th and 46th minutes (4-1).

Guyana rebounded in the fourth quarter with two goals of their own following a 53rd minute strike by Robert France and Meshach Sergeant in the 56th.

Guyana had an opportunity to equalize in the final minute of play but the official awarded a penalty corner which could have been a penalty stroke.

The ensuing penalty corner was not converted leaving the final score 4-3 in favour of the Jamaicans.

The Guyanese had lost to Trinidad and Tobago in their opening match 1-4, then suffered a hard fought 3-4 defeat against hosts the Dominican Republic while their final Pool match against Cuba ended 5-3 in favour of the Cubans.
