The Petra Organization officially presented complete team kits yesterday to the schools that will be competing in the Round of 16 section of the 8th edition of the Digicel Football Championship.

The simple but significant presentation occurred at the National Insurance Scheme ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The teams that attended the presentation were Dolphin, West Ruimveldt, Waramuri, Charity, St Ignatius, DC Caesar Fox, Santa Rosa, Buxton, Kwakwani, Carmel and Westminster while the absent schools were Tucville, Charlestown, Mahaicony Technical Institute (MTI), and Berbice Educational Institute (BEI).

Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organization, the entity that is tasked with the administration of the tournament, stated that the event has been a learning experience for the organizing committee, which was alleviated by the established network of regional coordinators.

He disclosed that the organizing committee was looking forward to the 9th and 10th editions, which will feature incremental improvements from the current iteration.

Meanwhile, Gabriella Chapman, Communications Director of Digicel, congratulated the respective teams that have progressed to this juncture of the tournament, declaring that the tournament, which is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, is a testament to the company’s commitment to the development of youths and sports.

Also, National Coordinator, Lavern Fraser-Thomas, affirmed that the tournament has been an overwhelming success and has provided the platform for schools to be showcased that otherwise would be outside the general public’s view.

Upon the end of the Round of 16 division, the quarterfinal round will occur on Sunday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Similarly, the semifinal section is set for Wednesday at the same location, with the eventual championship encounter penciled for August 13th at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
