Guyana eliminated from Concacaf U15 tourney after Belize defeat

Guyana was eliminated from the Concacf U15 Boys Championship, as they lost to Belize yesterday in their final must-win group stage encounter at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao.

Needing a win to keep their hopes alive of progressing to the elimination round, the Golden Jaguars lost 0-2 to their Belizean counterpart to end the event with two points following a record of two draws and a loss. Guyana played a scoreless affair in their second match against Barbados on Monday. They also contested a 0-0 draw with Guadeloupe in their tournament opener on Sunday. More importantly, Guyana failed to score a goal during their entire campaign.

The 2023 edition of the tournament, which features the participation of 42 nations [40 CONCACAF and 2 Asian Football Confederation countries], will be staged in Curaçao and the Dominican Republic from August 6th-13th. The event will be contested in a three-tier league format, which will comprise an initial group stage play followed by an elimination section. League A comprises the 16 highest-ranked teams. They are Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.

Meanwhile, League B features 16 sides and comprises Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bonaire, Cayman Islands, Curaçao, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Nicaragua, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Suriname. On the other hand, League C contains the lowest-ranked nations. They are Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, French Guiana, Montserrat, Saint Martin, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Sint Maarten, Turks & Caicos Islands, and US Virgin Islands.

All League A matches will be staged in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, whilst Willemstad, Curacao, serve as the host for Leagues B and C.
