Head coach of Guyana’s U-13 cricket team which scored a 2-0 series win over a Trinidad and Tobago side, Amir Rahaman, says that in order to advance further, his players should focus on competing at a higher level at their local clubs and academies.

Rahaman made the announcement yesterday at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport following the team’s return from Trinidad & Tobago.

The first and fourth games of the series were affected by rain while the Guyana U13s won the second and third games by three wickets and by five runs respectively.

According to Rahaman during a brief interview with the media, this generation of players is among the best for their age group and has the necessary ability to compete at the U15 and U17 levels. Rahaman said that this was demonstrated throughout the series as the players showed a high degree of maturity and cricket knowledge that was essential to their victory over the hosts. He expressed his gratitude to the Guyana Cricket Board and its president, Bissoondyal Singh, for the continuous support during the campaign, noting that the recently established academies had produced a number of prominent players and led to the inclusion of players from each county in the squad.

The U13 Bilateral series was organized by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) who wants to see its bilateral arrangement with the Guyana Cricket Board expanded into a regional cricket tournament.
