The curtain came down on the three-hand dominoes competition of the World Council of Dominoes Federations (WCDF), 19th World Domino championships at the Providence National Stadium last evening and after the dust had settled, the Guyana men’s team had emerged victorious whilst the women’s team endured a heartbreak, losing to the USA team on sixes.

“The USA and Guyana female teams were tied on points and when it came down to sixes, USA had one six more than us, so they got first, Guyana placed second and Barbados got third,” said coordinator of the event Barbara Marshall last evening.

Marshall said, however, that the Guyana male team, which was in the lead as of Tuesday night, expectedly brought home the bacon.

“With regards to the male three-hand competition Guyana placed first, Antigua (and Barbuda) was second and Barbados came last,” said Marshall.

The Guyana female team, led by Amanda Singh, was in the lead up to the end of the penultimate day’s play but lost ground to the USA team during yesterday’s final day.

The teams will now continue the four-hand competition and the Pool-O-Rama where 27 players remain of which 17 are from Guyana.

The tournament is expected to conclude Sunday.
