Albion Cricket Club yesterday needed a super over in order to win the Berbice zone title of the Republic Bank Ltd., nationwide Under-23 Inter-Club Super50 tournament. Playing against Blairmont Cricket Club, Albion were indebted to Kumar Deopersaud, who took two wickets in the super over after the two sides had made identical scores of 90 when batting.

Albion batting first were indebted to Damion Cecil’s innings of 28 along with 17 from Afraz Budhoo.

Akash Ragobeer took 4 for 19 while Nigel Deodat and Seon Glasgow snatched two wickets each bowling for Blairmont.

Blairmont then failed to eclipse their opponent’s score being dismissed for 90 with Glasgow (29) and Chris Harry (27), the principal scorers. Deopersaud was the destroyer with four wickets while Leon Cecil also picked up four wickets. The thrilling Super Over saw Albion rallying to victory off the last ball thanks to the heroics of Deopersaud, who snatched two more wickets after being entrusted with the most important over of the game, finishing with six wickets while shepherding his team to the title.  Albion and Essequibo champions North Essequibo now await the Demerara champions in the National Playoffs which will be played on September 7 and 8.
