Athletes inspire many through their achievements and positive mindset. From the young to adults, everyone admires and looks up to high performance athletes and many consider them role models.

Powerlifter Romeo Hunter, who recently returned from the World Sub-Junior and Junior Powerlifting Championships in Romania with a squat gold medal in tow, has aspirations to use his platform to motivate and inspire his peers as well as adults.

At just 16, Hunter is the current holder of 18 national records in the Open and under-18 (sub-junior) divisions. However, that is just the start of  his achievements. As much as he dominates on the platform, Hunter is also a ‘beast’ with the books and in the classroom. The USA-born son of Oudit Seenarain, who attended Apex Academy, passed nine CSEC subjects when he sat the examinations earlier this year.

“I like to go to the gym and lift heavy weights, but I am also disciplined when it comes to my schoolwork,” Hunter stated in a recent interview with this publication.

His success on the competition floor has certainly translated in the classroom, proving that young persons can excel at both academics and sport.

Studies have shown that young people who engage in sports are far less likely to engage in negative habits such as the use of illegal substances and gambling. As a result, it is necessary that people get the motivation to engage in sporting activities.

Hunter aims to become a motivating factor for youths locally and around the globe.

Seenarain who has a background as a wrestler, winning the Southern States Championships in 1995, stated that his son’s passion to be the best at what ever he does is quite remarkable and he is always proud to support his endeavors.

With his father standing as a pillar of support, Hunter is of the opinion that the sky is the limit and sees himself as a top tier athlete in the disciplines of bodybuilding and powerlifting in the next five years.

“I also want to be Mr. Guyana one day” said the talented teen who won the Novices Bodybuilding Overall title last year.

For now however, himself and his father’s plan is to “get back to the drawing board” in an effort to dominate the competition next year in his final year as a sub-junior at the annual championships which is scheduled to be held in Malta.

Should he continue on his upward trajectory, the sky is really the limit for the teenager blessed with otherworldly strength as well as intelligence.
