Five of the country’s  top Simon Pures are scheduled to depart Guyana Saturday for Cuba where they will be involved in training sessions leading up to their participation at next month’s Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

This is according to president of the Guyana Boxing Association Steve Ninvalle who briefed reporters at a Press Conference yesterday at the Mirage building, Albert and Third Street, Alberttown.

“We’re scheduled to send five boxers out to Cuba on Saturday for a three-week training stint in preparation for the Pan Am Games, Ninvalle said yesterday.

According to Ninvalle, it is the first time in quite a while that they have so many   boxers going out for such a long time.

Ninvalle told boxers Desmond Amsterdam and Keevin Allicock, who were present, that it was important that they keep on the path as it will serve to encourage other young boxers. “The young boxers look up to you guys so it is important that you tread the right path,” he declared.

Ninvalle added that the boxers will be accompanied by Cuban Coach Francisco Roldan who is already in Cuba having departed Guyana on Tuesday.
