Vagrant dies after hit by truck on Regent St

A vagrant (name unknown) died in an accident on Monday evening at the intersection of Avenue of Republic & Regent Street in Georgetown. The driver is in custody, assisting with investigations.

According to police, the accident involved the vagrant and a truck, GAB 4705, with trailer TAD 5496, driven by Lincoln Anthony Corlette, a 38-year-old from Sophia, Georgetown.

Enquiries revealed that the truck was proceeding south along the Avenue of the Republic. At the time, the traffic light signal was showing green and as it was in the process of driving through the above-named intersection, four pedestrians standing at the side of the road attempted to run across.

The driver stated that he swerved west to avoid a collision with the pedestrians, but one of them collided with the rear left wheel of the trailer. As a result, the pedestrian fell onto the roadway with injuries to his body. An ambulance service was summoned, and the injured pedestrian examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead at the scene.

The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
