Woman shot in neck outside her Berbice home

Police in Berbice are investigating the circumstances in which a woman was shot in her neck in front of her home at Williamsburg, Corentyne. 

The incident occurred on Saturday around 7:40 am and the injured woman was identified as 32-year-old Ashmin Mahadeo. 

According to reports, Neil Madramootoo, who has shared a common-law relationship with the woman for the past seven years, said that she told him she had an appointment to have her nails done and so he went to her residence.

The man reportedly told the police that the woman was at the car and he was heading to the house 40 feet away when he heard a loud explosion.

Upon looking around he observed her lying in front of the gate. He raised an alarm and she was immediately picked up and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, from where she was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital with a gunshot wound to her neck. Her  condition is listed as stable but critical.

Several people were contacted and questioned and the investigation is ongoing.
