Construction worker arrested after found near barrel containing ganja

A 36-year-old construction worker of Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara was arrested on Friday night, after police on mass patrol found him near a barrel containing 424.5 grammes of cannabis.

Ranks from the Cove and John Police Station, whilst patrolling at Nabaclis Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara, saw and searched the 36-year-old construction worker, but nothing illegal was found on his person. However, a search of a blue plastic barrel about ten feet away from where he was, turned up transparent plastic wrap containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems of cannabis.

The construction worker was told of the offence, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Cove and John Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 424.5 grammes.

The construction worker is in custody as investigations continue.
