Perry Budhram, of Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, died following the incident which occurred at Granny Landing, Omai Backdam, Siparuni, Region Eight.

According to a police press release, Budhram and two co-workers from Chunilall Babulall Mining Company: 30-year-old McDavid Barran and 23-year-old Navin Murray went to Granny Landing on Saturday around 12:00 hrs, where they purchased a case of beer and began to imbibe.

According to the police, around 15:00 hrs, Budhram told his co-workers that he was going to “pick a fare” with a Spanish girl who goes by the name ‘Jenny’. Around 16:00 hrs, the two co-workers decided to head back to camp and called for Budhram, who reportedly told them that he was not returning.

The police said that according to Lincoln Samson, a 57-year-old businessman of Granny Landing, around 17:45 hrs yesterday, he saw Budhram run behind his shop in a bending position. He immediately checked on him and saw that he had wounds on each of his arms.

Samson said Budhram told him that a man had chopped him. Samson then assisted him by tying the wounds with cloth. He told the police that he later saw ‘Saw Man’ and asked him if he knew who had chopped Budhram. He said ‘Saw Man’ responded that Budhram had also chopped him and told him about his mother. Budhram, meanwhile, who had been placed to lie near a truck, had become motionless and Samson made contact with the police.

Budhram was taken to Mahdia District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. The body is at the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The police said they searched several shops, camps, and worksites for the suspect (Saw Man), but he could not be contacted. Efforts were also made to contact ‘Jenny’ for questioning, but her whereabouts are unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
