The Guyana Wrestling Association (GWA) has held the first in a series of wrestling workshops with more workshops scheduled.
This is according to a press release from the GWA.
According to the release, the first workshop under the theme `Wrestle Berbice’ was held October 29 at the New Amsterdam Town Hall.
“The workshop was held in accordance with the association’s mission which is to coordinate, promote and develop the sport of wrestling in Guyana,” the release stated.
A coaches and referee course will commence early next year as the association continues to fulfill its mission and to achieve the highest standards possible in the sport, the release stated.
According to the release, the association intends to expand the staging of the workshops throughout the country, one region at a time with an inter-school, ball-wrestling competition, next on the agenda to be introduced and implemented.
Ball-wrestling, stated the release helps to educate the athletes in the fundamental of Olympic wrestling.
