Two Venezuelans were arrested yesterday morning after they were found with 11,000 grams of cannabis during a roadblock at the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB).

Ranks during an intelligence-led operation set up a roadblock on the western end of the DHB where motor car PPP 1521 was intercepted. The two Venezuelan nationals: 22 year-old Kevyn De Jesus and 29 year-old Marcelino Marcos both of  Lot 66 David Street Kitty were occupants of the car.

A police corporal who was a part of the roadblock, told the driver of his suspicions and requested to carry out a search on the car and the two occupants.

Police say a search was conducted on both men and nothing illegal was found. However, a search of the motorcar revealed fifteen compressed parcels. The parcels were opened in the duo’s presence and revealed a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Both men were told of the offence committed and cautioned and they remained silent.

They were arrested and escorted to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station along with the cannabis which amounted to 11,000 grams, when weighed.

Both suspects remain in custody pending further investigation and charge/s.
