Eleven football players who were recipients of Guyana Football Federation (GFF) scholarships, are now certified excavator operators following the successful completion of a three week Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP) training course.

This was disclosed by an official release from the federation. According to the correspondence, the graduation ceremony for the participants occurred on Wednesday at MACORP’s headquarters in Providence, East Bank Demerara.

The certified excavator operators are Sasha Greaves, Anneicia Cole, Jomar Adams, Trevon Alder, Diquan McLean, Ian McLennan, DeAndre Linton, Antonio Allen, Mark Hilkes, Gaibert Salty, and Benedict Gomes. The three week training programme, which commenced on September 4th, comprised theoretical and practical sessions.

MACORP President and General Manager German Consuegra said, “We have been committed to the Guyana Football Federation to provide training to our players as part of our social responsibility commitment to Guyana, adding that the scholarship programme aids the participants to, “acquire real knowledge and abilities. We give you the skills to be able to contribute to the growth and to the progress of your country.”

“Launched in 2021, the scholarship programme is structured to offer individuals engaged in football the chance to gain new skills that can be applied for livelihoods beyond their active football careers. As of now, 32 footballers and federation officials have accessed the life-changing skills development scholarship programme” the release stated.

Meanwhile, GFF President Wayne Forde praised MACORP for their generosity, noting that an integral part of the federation’s focus is professional development of players.

He explained, “The Guyana Football Federation can sometimes be perceived as an organisation that is purely concentrating on football activities, such as running tournaments, developing coaches and referees. The truth being, that while we are tasked primarily with the developing football, our core duty is to develop people because the people that serve our fraternity is at the heart of everything we do.”
