The defending champion, the University of Guyana (UG), trounced Mahaicony Technical Institute 77-35 when the Youth Basketball Guyana’s Tertiary Knockout Championship bounced off yesterday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

UG outclassed the MTI unit, as Kobe Tappin recorded 26 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the lopsided encounter.

Alroy Rose supported with figures of 15 points and seven rebounds, while Jether Harris added 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, and Jushawn Bayley tallied 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

For the loser, Joel Estriado registered nine points and 11 rebounds, while Marvin Mars amassed nine points and eight rebounds. Adding seven points and six rebounds was Kevin Morrison.

Meanwhile, New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) downed Linden Technical Institute (LTI) 61–55. Charles Williams recorded 23 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Supporting him with 11 points and four rebounds was Qwesi Joseph, while Antwone Nelson recorded 11 points.

For LTI, Kimol Grimmond registered 23 points and seven rebounds, while Jemol Semple scored nine points.

Also, the Guyana School of Agriculture defeated the Government Technical Institute via walkover. The event continues on Wednesday at the same venue.
