The highlight of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s (GMR&SC) 1320 Heat was Peter Daby’s Mazda RX-7 which lit up the South Dakota Strip on Sunday clocking the fastest time of the day with 9.067 seconds as the drag racing season got underway.
Daby’s Mazda was unrivalled in the fastest class (9 second) of the day while Krishna Ramseywack’s Toyota Verossa ruled the 10-second class.
Meanwhile, Vishal Gewan’s Toyota Caldina ruled the roost in the 11-second class while Surinamese driver Prakash Lachman won the 12-second class.
In the 13-second class, Pankraj Ramdeo’s Toyota Corolla RUN-X was the fastest, while he also took the 16-second class with a Toyota Caldina. Shivan Raganauth’s Toyota Carina 212 won the 14-second class and Vivikanand Jaikaran’s Toyota Corolla Fielder topped the 15-second class.
In an unprecedented move, three female drivers took to the strip with Malicia Lawrence competing in a Toyota Altezza while Fiona Dhanpat drove a Cadillac ATS and Zaleema Haniff in her Toyota Levin. Eventually, it was Dhanpat who would drive away with the overall female title.
Shem Chattersingh took the 600CC Bike category while Jermaine Chattersingh rode away with the 1000CC Bike category.
