West Demerara giant Pouderoyen FC defeated home side Buxton Stars by a 3-0 score-line in a pre-season encounter on Wednesday evening at the Buxton Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara.

Defender Dontay McAulay recorded the only conversion of the first half, as he opened the scoring for the visitors in the 25th minute from a set piece play. The aforesaid goal emanated from a corner kick, as McAulay rose above his marker to direct his header into the back of the net from inside the centre of the penalty area.

Upon the resumption of play, Trevon Connell doubled the visitors lead as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 65th minute. Racing into the 18-yard area, Connell, upon receiving a right-sided squared pass from Matthew Chidume, thumped his effort into the back of the net.

The result was then sealed in the 90th minute, as Chidume made his presence felt once more. Stealing the ball off the boot of the final defender following an error by the latter at the top of the 18-yard area, the burly Chidume slotted his effort past the advancing goalkeeper into the far corner during a one-on-one situation.

In a post-match comment, Pouderoyen head coach Travis ‘Zoti’ Bess said, “Pouderoyen showed much improvement in the game. They kept the ball well, and when asked to defend, they were tight and compact. Overall, it was a really good match played with high spirit and competitiveness.”

He further disclosed that additional fixtures have been planned for the team as they continue their preparation for the West Demerara League campaign, which is slated to commence shortly.
