Defending champion Cotton Tree defeated Achievers A by 113 runs to retain their AJM ‘Mash It Up’ T20 Cricket Championship on Sunday evening at the Bush Lot Sports Complex ground, West Coast Demerara.

Batting first after winning the toss under lights, Cotton Tree tallied an imposing 222/5 on the back of Fawaz Gafoor’s 79 and Kevin Jawahir’s 52. Leon Swamy and Abdul Subhan added 31 and 27 runs, respectively. For the bowlers, Derick McCalmont snared 2-40.

In response, Achievers A were bundled out for 109. Shamal Angel offered resistance with 31. Waqar Hassan and Jawahir engineered the collapse as the duo combined for nine wickets. Hassan recorded figures of 5-14, while Jawahir tallied 4-18.

With the win, Cotton Tree walked away with the championship trophy and the $1,000,000 first-place prize.

In the earlier elimination matches, Cotton Tree defeated D’ Edwards by 10 runs. Batting first, Cotton Tree, led by a brutal 87 [6x6s, 6x4s] from Swamy, tallied 176/5 in their allotment of overs. In reply, D’ Edwards fell short at 166/9. Javed Karim top-scored with 42. Nashed Gaffur led the bowlers with 3-37.

On the other hand, Achievers A defeated Bush Lot by six wickets. Batting first, Bush Lot was skittled for 100 in 19.4 overs. Brian Nurse was the main threat with 3-18 in 3.4 overs, while Kwesi Mickle was supported with 3-32. In response, Achievers A reached their target of 101 in 18.4 overs. Leon Andrews scored the most with 38, while Quacey McPherson added 24.
