As March 30 quickly approaches, the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will head into the final phase of preparation for the CARIFTA Games contingent with the second ‘Carifta Team vs The Rest’ track meet which begins today at the National Track & Field Centre (NTFC) at Edinburgh, West Coast Demerara.

The 23-athlete contingent consists of the likes of Tianna Springer, Malachi Austin, Javon Roberts, Athaleyah Hinckson and others who will get much needed track time ahead of the Carifta Games which will run from March 30-April 1 in Grenada at the Kirani James Stadium in St. George’s.

Springer who has emerged as one of the most exciting track and field talents in recent years recently secured a NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) deal with German sports brand Adidas. Meanwhile, speaking to Stabroek Sports, AAG President Amanda Hermonstine explained that while the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and the National Sports Commission have already made welcome contributions towards the financial aspect of getting the Carifta Games contingent to Grenada, there is still some additional support that is required.

Hermonstine, while thanking the GOA and the NSC, made an appeal to corporate Guyana to lend their support to the athletes’ Carifta Games quest as they aim to bring back medals to Guyana.

At the ‘Carifta Team vs The Rest’ meets, the AAG noted that persons attending to show their support will be asked to make a contribution of $500 at the gate, which will go towards the Carifta Games team.
