Guyana commences its campaign with losses to Argentina and the USA

Guyana’s campaign in the Indoor Pan American Cup got off to the worst possible start, as they suffered defeats at the hands of Argentina and the United States of America (USA) yesterday in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

In the opening game of their group campaign, Guyana went down to Argentina 5-9. Robert France tallied a double in the 14th and 23rd minutes, while Jamarj Assanah recorded a brace in the 15th and 33rd minutes. Adding a goal in the 15th minute was Shakeem Fausette.

For the Argentineans, Nehuen Ayala recorded a hat-trick in the sixth, 20th, and 38th minutes, while Facundo Navarro bagged a double in the fourth and 24th minutes, and Agustin Ceballos netted a brace in the 24th and 27th minutes. Adding a goal in the 19th minute was Maximiliano Valdes.

In their second fixture, Guyana lost to the USA 3-5. Aroydy Branford registered a second-half brace for Guyana in the 35th and 38th minutes, while Shaquan Favourite netted in the 29th minute. For the USA, Ajai Dhadwal amassed a hat-trick in the third, 30th, and 34th minutes, while Jeroen Dijkema and Jack Weitzman netted in the 15th and 23rd minutes, respectively.

With the aforesaid results, Guyana sits in fourth place in the group with zero points and a -6 goal differential. They will resume their campaign today against the host nation.
